PDFSlick started as a simple idea: reading English research papers shouldn't feel like a second full-time job.
If you're a graduate student, a PhD candidate, or a researcher whose first language isn't English, you know the feeling. You open a paper that looks relevant to your work, and twenty minutes later you've only made it through the abstract. Technical jargon, long sentences, unfamiliar terminology — it adds up. Traditional translation tools mangle the meaning. Asking a general-purpose AI chatbot means copying and pasting chunk by chunk.
What PDFSlick Does
PDFSlick is built around one core job: helping you understand academic PDFs faster. Upload a research paper, and get instant translations, summaries, and section-by-section explanations powered by modern AI. Alongside the AI reader, we include a set of free PDF utilities — merge, compress, convert, and more — so you don't need to bounce between tools when working with your documents.
Why We Built This
This project was started by an independent developer who spent too many late nights wrestling with English papers during grad school. Existing tools were either too generic, too slow, or too focused on casual reading instead of academic work. PDFSlick is our attempt to build the tool we wished we had.
Our Principles
Privacy-first. Your papers are yours. We don't train models on your uploads, and basic features don't require an account.
Built for speed. Most actions run in your browser. No waiting, no bloated interfaces.
Made for real researchers. Every feature answers a question we've actually asked ourselves while reading papers.
